VTC Cohorts
-
The Vanguard Transition Center offers three cohorts to students and places them according to their strengths, needs and preferences.
- Post-Secondary Education Support Cohort: assists students who are enrolled in or plan to enroll in a college program or vocational school.
- Vocational I Cohort: supports students bridging to work, housing and adult agencies in functional academics for success at home, school, work and in the community.
- Vocational II Cohort: prepares students for employment through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job educational training.
The Role of Parents
The Transition Center program is a partnership with parents, whose involvement and training are strong components of the program. Helping a son or daughter transition to adult life can be daunting and complicated. Planning and preparation for the transition are best completed over the course of several years. The transition planning process takes into account the family’s dreams and concerns as well as the student’s strengths, needs, and aspirations. A well-educated, empowered parent is a tremendous asset as we work as a team toward achieving appropriate goals.
